THE BEGINNING
1903 was a remarkable year. Motor vehicle
enthusiasts held the first transcontinental auto race from San
Francisco to New York City. On July 4th President Theodore
Roosevelt sent the first official message over the new Pacific Cable
from his home in Oyster Bay, New York to Governor Taft in the
Philippine Islands. In October, American and National League teams
played the first World Series baseball game in Boston. The United
States concluded a treaty with the new nation of Panama that opened the
way for the construction of a canal between the Atlantic and Pacific
Oceans. Marie Curie became the first woman to receive a Nobel
Prize when she was recognized for her work with a phenomenon she named
radioactivity. William S. Harley and Arthur Davidson began making
and selling motorcycles. On the windswept sands of Kitty Hawk,
North Carolina two brothers from Ohio flew the first airplane.
And in Detroit, Michigan, Henry Ford, James Couzens, and the Dodge
brothers formed the Ford Motor Company.
That same year, Fred L. Vandeveer, a young
attorney, moved from St. Louis, Missouri to Michigan at the request of
a client. There he started a law practice.
THE PAST
The law firm that Fred Vandeveer started in
Michigan in 1903 flourished. The history of that firm, now known as
Vandeveer Garzia, has been characterized by an expertise in all aspects
of litigation, from the simplest lawsuit to the most sophisticated and
complex commercial or technical dispute. We have always been
known for our exceptional conflict resolution capabilities. Over the
years, those capabilities, as well as loyalty, perseverance and
integrity have become the cornerstones of the firm.
THE PRESENT
Today, the attorneys of Vandeveer Garzia still
represent the same client that Fred Vandeveer began representing when
he first came to Michigan. We still endeavor to form long-lasting
relationships with our clients through personal contact and aggressive
representation.
Our clients include individuals, major public corporations, new and
emerging firms, insurance companies, municipal corporations,
governmental agencies and private or closely-held corporations.
Vandeveer Garzia uses a team concept in providing
legal services. Each team consists of a leader who is an expert
in a particular area of the law along with associate attorneys and
support personnel. This approach enables us to channel our
collective expertise to provide the client with maximum results and
real value.

education including lectures, seminars, and in-house training sessions.
Our attorneys also present seminars, moderate
educational conferences and conduct training sessions in various areas
of the law for clients and industry groups.
The attorneys of Vandeveer Garzia have been
recognized for high professional standards and ethics. The firm
has received the coveted “AV” rating, the highest rating in
the Martindale-Hubbell program, a process in which other attorneys rate
law firms and their fellow attorneys. The firm is regularly
included in the Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers.
